Fiberglass Repair
There were several cars made from fiberglass, but Corvettes are still the most prevalent.  In the 50's and 60's, metal shaping panels for a low production car was not always a practical production method.  If you wanted to produce a car with less weight, more radical curves and body lines or a seamless appearance, fiberglass was a great way to do it.  Although fiberglass does not rust, it is susceptible to other damage, resulting in the need for significant repairs later.

Exposure to UV rays and fatigue from movement causes fiberglass to begin to breakdown, resulting in cracks.  The deterioration begins as minor, microscopic cracks that, over time, get bigger and cause the fibers to separate from the resin that holds them together.  As the cracks get bigger, more stress occurs to the remaining material leading to a significant break.
